Creativity Month - January 16

What Is Creativity Month?

If you want to boost your creativity skills then you are in luck as the month of January is declared to be the International Creativity Month. Randall Munson, the creator of this special event, has made the purpose of International Creativity Month to find time to explore our creative minds of re-energize ourselves and the people around us. This can include creatively improving your ways of communication, arranging group thinking sessions or setting creative activities.

Munson says that we were created to be creative, giving the example of how creative young children are: “A center for creative learning studied the creativity of children and found that during the first five years 90% of children are highly creative. In the next two years, ages six and seven, the percentage of highly creative children dropped to 10%. By age eight or nine, the percentage of highly creative children fell to only 2% and stayed about that level from that time on.”

Getting ready for the International Creativity Month is an opportunity for and to inspire people to unleash the creativity that they are created with.

How to celebrate Creativity Month?

Being creative this month can be done in many different ways. As an individual, it is up to you on how you could be creative as this can help you determine your own personality and unleash your creative spirit. However, there are beneficial ways for you to celebrate this month while exploring what you can produce.

Just Begin

The best way to flame up your creativity is to begin in whichever direction is easiest. Stop thinking, don’t ever think about the process and procedures, and just unleash your stream of thoughts. Whether that is thinking of some words to a mind map to see where it takes you or painting a portrait on canvas, many people are able to inspire themselves by simply getting started.

If you struggle with looking for inspiration, you could try and start collecting images or terms that you think could help fuel your creativity later on.

Move around

Going out for a walk can stimulate creative thinking. Many famous, successful business people have been well known for holding walking meetings, these are Mark Zuckerberg and the late Steve Jobs.

Simple movement can be particularly effective for stimulating your first few creative thoughts, so next time if you feel like you are far from getting bright ideas, walking might just take you a few steps closer.

Look For Inspiration In The Environment

Environmental factors can have a massive impact on an individual’s creative thinking and also productivity. Finding the right surroundings for you may be a trial and error process because a particular noise, lighting or color could stimulate creativity for most people while sabotaging it for others. Even changes to the vibrancy or shade of one color can have an effect on us, so it is worth trying different environments to find your creative sweet spot.
