Best Video Format and Size for Facebook

The most popular video formats people usually use for their video content are MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV and Flash.

However, for the best quality of your videos, the ideal video formats Facebook recommends are MOV and MP4. These two formats are certainly your best bets since they are pretty lightweight and can maintain the video’s HD quality during compression and uploading process.

For quality performance, your videos should be 1280 pixels wide and 720 pixels tall.

Here is the ideal aspect ratio for the following layouts:

  1. Landscape= 16:9
  2. Square= 1:1
  3. Vertical: 4:5

Tip: You can use whatever layout you want but square and vertical videos are the ideal layouts for Facebook.

Facebook lowers the quality of your videos but don’t worry because there’s a way to keep them in High Definition (HD).

  • Choose to upload in HD: In the “videos and photos” section of your Facebook Setting tab, choose and click “Upload HD”.
  • Compress your videos: To get the most out of your MP4 or MOV video file compression, select AAC and at least 128 KBPS to keep the high-quality sound and compression codec of H.264 for the HD footage.

Take note of these things and you’re good to go. The right video format certainly contributes to a high-quality Facebook video. If your supposedly stunning video turns bad when uploaded, do you think viewers will continue watching? Some viewers might continue and some will probably shift to another video. Step up your game and follow this cheat sheet to succeed in turning viewers into customers!
