World Whale Day - February 15

By Imagine Earth Photography

What is World Whale Day?

Founded in Maui, Hawaii in 1980, World Whale Day is celebrated in honor of the giants of the oceans every third Sunday of February.

It is best to know that the world is not only for humans, and there are, in fact, various creatures living on Earth aside from people.

In this matter, this event encourages everyone to spread awareness that a single bad thing a human do can have an impact on other beings.

Whales are enormous marine mammals living in the vast body of water. While they were hunted for human consumption and for other benefits they bring, some people do not do anything good for these creatures and instead destroy their habitat as well as contributing to water pollution.

How to celebrate World Whale Day?

To lessen the world’s problem of extinctions and to help in saving these animals needed for our biodiversity, participating in a local coastal cleanup drive will be of much help.

Also, it is essential that you are knowledgable on how to dispose of your waste correctly and make it a habit.

In some places, hunting of whales is still practiced, and some use whales as a tourist attraction, feeding them and destroying the whale’s natural way of living. Spread the word with your friends so they can, along with you, avoid the consumption of whales and be wary of booking adventure trips.

Furthermore, raising funds to support the Pacific Whale Organization or any other foundation pursuing the same mission to protect sea creatures is an excellent option.
